control, and assumed it owing to pressure by His

Majesty's Government? Is the private trader, who

hitherto has flourished in Macao to the annoyance

of this Government, henceforward to be allowed to

flourish in this Colony to the annoyance of Macao?

7. As regards the proposal to send another

familiar with this Colony than are the Hong Kong

officials.
